Constitution Day/Citizenship Day Ceremony September 16, 2019

To celebrate Constitution Day, twenty new citizens will be sworn in front of the Historic Portal Schoolhouse in Papillion, Nebraska. The ceremony will take place on Monday, September 16th, at 1:30 p.m. on the grounds outside the schoolhouse.

The ceremony will include our master of ceremonies, Bob Olson, a lifetime Papillion resident and board member of the PAHS. Mr. Eugene Curtin, writer for the Omaha World Herald, Creighton Magazine, and formerly at the Papillion Times will serve as our Key Note Speaker.

The Papillion Area Historical Society is hosting the event. Support for the event is encouraged and can be arranged by contacting the Historical Society at (402)679-5100.

Priority seating is given to new citizens and their families. The public is welcome to observe the ceremony based on space availability.

Omaha Gives is happening NOW!

Omaha Gives! is a one-day online fundraising event organized by the Omaha Community Foundation and held on May 24^th to raise support for nonprofits in Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie Counties. It is a community-wide event to show off the area’s spirit of giving, raise awareness about local nonprofits, and celebrate the collective effort it takes to make this city great.

Once again the Papillion Area Historical Society is proud to be participating in Omaha Gives! The online giving holiday will take place May 24^th from midnight to midnight. Mark your calendars so you can help us, as we join over 700 local nonprofits to raise money together and compete for matching funds and prize money. The more money we raise, the larger percentage of the bonus dollars we will receive. The more donors we get to give to us, the more likely we are to win prizes. Money raised for PAHS will help provide programs, pay utility bills and maintain our two historic buildings throughout the year. Your support is greatly appreciated! Learn more at Omaha Gives.

Wedding Dress Exposition – We need your help!

The Papillion Area Historical Society is collecting items to display at A Wedding Dress Exposition in conjunction with Papillion Days (June 14 – 18, 2017). This is a special celebration for Papillion Days – our 70th year! In addition, we will be part of the Nebraska Sesquicentennial celebration – 150 years! Mark your calendars now!

A Wedding Dress Exposition will offer a glimpse into wedding traditions from the 1800’s through today. Wedding celebrations are a reflection of the times and rich diverse cultures in which they occur. We are looking to display a variety of items in the historic Portal School House in downtown Papillion during Papillion Days. All items will be covered by insurance. ‘Tis the Season to Stroll Down Gingerbread Lane

Stroll among ornately decorated Gingerbread designs crafted by Culinary Arts students from Papillion La Vista and Papillion La Vista South High Schools. Tickets to win a gingerbread house made by Bill Dorcey are $3 each or (2) for $5. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of the Historic Portal Schoolhouse.

The Papillion Area Historical Society holds their general meetings on the first Thursday of every other month. We meet at the Portal School, located at the corner of E. 3rd and N. Jefferson Streets. Meetings begin at 7:00 PM. Plan to join us at the next member meetings on September 8, 2016 and November 3, 2016.

The Sautter House and Portal School are ready for summer visitors. Both buildings will be open for tours on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 2-4 PM.
